Something I take for granted that I think everyone knows, is how to identify a fastener for its grade and other properties. This can be particularly important in critical applications where the fastener is an integral part of the engineering. This ShopChartz™ shows the popular and some of the more obscure fasteners.
The grade of a fastener is actually marked on the fastener by a series and pattern of lines, dots, letters or numbers. Bolts generally have raised indicators, nuts have indented ones.
